About LitMatch

What it is

LitMatch is a map of who publishes whom. It is built from the public record of literary publishing: who has appeared in which journals, who edits them, which presses publish which writers, which programs they came through, which agents represent them, and who translates whom, from which languages. Enter your own publications and the map shows where you sit in it, who is near you, and where your work might go next.

By writers, for writers

LitMatch is made by writers in western Massachusetts, and it is made for writers: poets and fiction writers trying to place a poem, a story, a manuscript, or a book. We started it because we could not figure out where to send our own work, and the only tools for that were searching the web and asking around. Everyone who publishes knows the field has a shape. We wanted to see it.

We are not publishers, editors, or agents. We sit on the same side of the desk as you.

Where the data comes from

Everything in the map comes from public sources: contributor notes, mastheads, press catalogs, program pages, and agency client lists. We record who published where. We do not record what anyone wrote, or judge it.

The record is only as good as those sources. If we have you wrong, or you would rather not be listed, write to us and we will fix it. Better still, claim your record and correct it yourself.

What we do not do

We never hold a manuscript. In the Manuscript Exchange the file travels by email between the two writers; only the payment and the reader's letter pass through LitMatch.

Nothing you enter here is used to train anything. Every reader in the Manuscript Exchange is a named writer with a public record, and the letters are written by them.

There are no ads, and we do not sell your data.

How it makes money

Searching the map and adding your publications is free. In the Manuscript Exchange, readers set their own prices, and when a paid read is completed LitMatch keeps 15 percent of what the reader charged.
